This is a custom-wound in our shop, handcrafted set of two (2) ’50/’51 “Blackguard” Telecaster pickups wound to Fender specs.

Components:

• ~ Neck – wound to approx. 7.33k w/43ga single build, enamel-coated, copper pickup coil wire & larger diameter alnico 5 magnets with a nickel cover, RWRP
• ~ Bridge – wound to approx. 9.73k w/43ga single build, enamel-coated, copper pickup coil wire & unbeveled, larger diameter alnico 3 magnets
• ~ Wax-potted to eliminate squealing & microphonics
• ~ Gavitt vintage-style, cloth-covered leads
• ~ Handcrafted with all “Made in the USA” parts (bobbins in North Carolina, magnets in Arkansas, pickup wire in Wisconsin, lead wire in New York)

Alnico 3 magnets are considered to be brighter than Alnico 2 with the least magnetic pull to allow the strings to vibrate more freely. A good choice for clean tones and lots of articulation. Overall the Alnico 3 is bright, with clear mids, warm bass, and a softer attack.

These have not been “aged” or “vintaged”. They are brand new pickups and LOOK like brand new pickups.

For fans of the unmistakable tone of a “Blackguard” Tele – punchy lows, fat mids and crisp, twangy highs—these are the REAL DEAL! They are faithful recreations of the originals. Crafted with large-diameter, unbeveled alnico 3 magnets in the bridge pickup and larger diameter alnico 5 magnets in the neck, they’re hand-wound using 43-gauge, single build enamel wire for authentic performance and sound.

Packed with open, lively, full-bodied tone, these pickups host a rare collection of features from the earliest versions of the 1950 Blackguard Tele in existence.

There are a lot of variables that go into creating, or recreating, a tone. While each item in your signal chain is important, no one item will do the job. Pickups, along with the way your guitar is wired, are probably the most important parts in your signal chain. Changing out the pickups/wiring has the biggest impact on your sound. If you are looking for a better-than-stock-Fender tone, THIS is where you start.

These “Blackguard” pickups are handcrafted by Hoagland Custom and wound specifically FOR YOU. They are NOT “off-the-shelf” pickups. They are NOT relabeled imported pickups. We make these in our shop, one at a time, and they are the highest quality pickups you can buy made from 100% American made parts.

While all of our pickup & wiring solutions are built to be installed rather easily by most do-it-yourselfers, we always recommend that you have a guitar professional at your local guitar shop install them for you.
