Hoagland Custom is a guitar custom shop located in Fernandina Beach, Florida.
This is a custom-wound, handcrafted set of two (2) “Broadcaster” 1950 Style Telecaster pickups wound to 1950 Fender® specs.
(To quote an article in Premier Guitar) “The Broadcaster was a two-pickup solid body guitar able to reach high stage volumes with none of the feedback problems that plagued hollow body guitars. The instrument was fitted with an easily replaced bolt-on neck that contained an adjustable truss rod (something earlier prototypes lacked). The instrument’s pickups were meant to give the same bright clarity as Fender’s lap steel guitars. Lastly, a 3-saddle adjustable bridge was included for better (though not perfect) intonation.”
Components:
- ~ Neck – alnico 3 magnets and wound to 7.3k.
- ~ chrome neck cover included
- ~ Bridge – wound to 8.6k with alnico 3 magnets (baseplate included)
- ~ Wax-potted to eliminate squealing & microphonics
- ~ Vintage-style, cloth-covered leads
- ~ Handcrafted with all “Made in the USA” parts (bobbins in North Carolina, magnets in Arkansas, pickup wire in Wisconsin, lead wire in New York)
This neck pickup is slightly overwound compared to a modern day standard Tele neck pickup.
The bridge pickup is wound with a thinner coil wire resulting in a more open, resonant, and slightly brighter and fatter pickup.
There are a lot of variables that go into creating, or recreating a tone. While each item in your signal chain is important, no one item will do the job. Pickups, along with the way your guitar is wired, are probably the most important parts in your signal chain. Changing out the pickups/wiring has the biggest impact on your sound. If you are looking for a better-than-stock-Fender tone, THIS is where you start.
