Description
Hoagland Custom has specialized in custom guitar wiring and pickup making for over 25 years and we love what we do!
Fender built several different types of Highway 1 Strats. Some with and some without their famous “Greasebucket” mod. (The GB mod started in 2005 on the Strats, we believe)
This is a “Highway One” style Stratocaster wiring solution built with the “Greasebucket” mod. It features high quality parts and crafted by hand. This wiring harness will give you great service for years!
It is built exactly to the Fender ® wiring diagram for their Highway One Strat with the “Greasebucket” mod..
The Highway One models are hot-rodded versions of a ’70s-style Strat with jumbo frets, a rounder tone and higher gain, as well as a thin-coated nitrocellulose body which allows the tone of the wood to come out. Two configurations are available: The SSS Highway One Stratocaster (also available left-handed) which features the standard Stratocaster pickup configuration of three single-coil pickups and the Highway One Stratocaster HSS – which features one humbucker and two single coil pickups.
This is the SSS Highway One model wiring with the “Greasebucket” circuit.
This type of band-pass filter only allows certain frequencies to pass through, while others are blocked. The standard tone circuit in the Strat is called a variable low-pass filter (aka a “treble-cut filter”), which allows only the low frequencies to pass through while the high frequencies get sent to ground via the tone cap.
The Greasebucket’s bandpass filter is a combination of a high-pass and a low-pass filter. This circuit is designed to cut high frequencies without adding bass. Mostly it has to do with that 4.7 kΩ resistor wired in series with the pot, which prevents the value from reaching zero. The additional cap on the wiper of the Greasebucket circuit complicates things a bit, because together with the pickups, it forms an RLC circuit (a resonant circuit comprising a resistor, an inductor, and a capacitor). But the Greasebucket has its own special sound, and we encourage you to try it. You’ll be surprised at its flexibility and tone.

While all of our wiring solutions are built to be installed rather easily, we always recommend that you have a guitar professional at your local guitar shop install it for you. There are a lot of variables (pickup brands & types, shielding, grounding, etc.) and your local guitar tech is well equipped to solve any installation problems you might have and get your guitar sounding it’s best!
